The Hamiota Ladies Legion Auxiliary met October 24 in the community room with twenty members. After opening with O Canada and colors, minutes were read, plans made for Remembrance Day Tea and Bake Sale, and Bertha Knight won the petty fund. Beth Cochrane, Dawn Hedley, and Heather McGregor received cheques from Lorraine Miller and Bernice Vincent for Basketball School expenses.

Lions Present Donations Amid 21 Years of Service
Ned Curll of the Lions Treasurer presented Phyllis Heenan of the Arthritis Society with a cheque for 582.85 raised via public canvass. The Lions Club completed its second annual canvass and donations totaled 594.65 for the CNIB. Since December 26, 1956, under Nelson Woods, four original members Dr. J.E. Hudson Art Oakden Jim Maitland and Ned Curll remain active.

Lions Club marks 21 years of service in community work
The Lions Club, founded December 26 1956 under Nelson Woods, celebrates 21 years with four original members still active Jim Maitland Ed Hudson Ned Curll and Art Oakden. They supported rink hall swimming pool and other projects and administer three local charities. They completed Arthritis Society and CMIB canvasses raising 582.25 and 594.65. Recent 225 Club winners receive 15.00 each Peggy Johnston Jim Steven Geo Campbell Wayne Mathison Agnes Pateman Bertha Knight Jean Whyte. Four new members Murray Mathison Larry Oakden Ed Kozyk and Ken Mathison joined this month to boost efforts toward a 3000 contribution to the swimming pool.

An apple dessert tea and bake sale at W I Hall in Oak River on Saturday October 22 proved a success. Proceeds fund the District Hospital allocation and Auxiliary expenses.
