Ratepayers vote 307 in favor and 25 against approving a 185000 water and sanitary sewer debenture. The plan, drawn by Underwood McLellan and Associates, was developed since the late fifties with local effort led by Mayor Jack Coombs and the Lions Club. Final plans featured a local improvement area and house-to-house canvass. Total eligible votes 390. turnout 92.5 percent.

Citizens celebrate by burning privy after bylaw approval
Citizens celebrated the water and sewer bylaw passing by burning a privy at the Arthur and Helen intersection. The outhouse was supplied by ratepayer E. M. Brown. A good number of ratepayers witnessed the event while the local fire brigade stood by ready to act.

Manitoba Fire Toll Climbs with 1962 Deaths

Birdtail School Division Tournament a Mixed Softball and Hardball Event
Ten softball teams and eight hardball squads attended the Birdtail Division tournament at Crandall on May 21. The day was cool and a student council booth shortage marked the event as a success. Ham iota won the hardball title defeating Crandall 2 1 in extra innings. The girls sprinted to victory with Beulah 7 6 and Kenton 12 9 before routing Miniota 16 0 in the final.

The Ham iota track and field meet drew divisions Pelly Trail Birdtail River and Fort La Bosse with 6 entrants per class. Birdtail won with 322 1/2 points followed by Pelly 313 1/2 and La Bosse 166 as Crandall Hamiota and Miniota led girls in the softball final 27-0.
