Post traumatic growth seen in trauma survivors
Psychologists Tedeschi and Calhoun of UNC Charlotte describe post traumatic growth as positive outcomes from trauma. They identify seven principles showing growth through changed world schemas, revised meaning, and deliberate life changes, with factors like optimism and social support boosting resilience and deeper purpose. The findings contrast distress with growth, noting growth often emerges when trauma becomes a watershed in life and influences future plans.
