Tax gaps favor US farmers say Manitoba study
A Round Table on Transportation report argues Canada taxes rail grain transport far higher than the United States. It cites 40 percent higher taxes in Canada, a $5,045 per trainload edge from North Dakota to Portland, and $225 million more tax payments by Canadian carriers. The piece urges tax relief and reduced government spending to keep Canadian grain competitive.

GM dealer to close Oakville site on June 30
Oakville's only auto dealership, owned by Morris and Arlene Shyiak, will shut its doors on June 30 after reviewing options. The move follows pressures from required capital upgrades and a shrinking market, with 14 full-time and several part-time employees facing potential reassignment. GM says Project 2000 aims to place dealers where they best serve customers.
