New Merit System for Safe Drivers in Manitoba
A new merit system will start September 1 in Manitoba to reward accident and conviction free drivers with up to five merit points, offsetting demerits. Points accrue at one per two years of faultless driving, with immediate eligibility for those with no prior demerits as of September 1. Demerit reductions follow a sliding scale, while basic Autopac premiums won’t fall but surcharges rise with higher demerits. The program applies to active licenses and excludes lapsed ones.
