Recreation volunteers report no rule changes for Manitoba Slow Pitch and announce Labatt sponsorship for a July 22 Oak River tournament. Seven teams are registered with room for one or two more, games run Mondays from June 4 to August to avoid harvest conflicts. Contact 764-2374 to enter.
Residents traveled to Strathclair for the Musical Anne of Green Gables and enjoyed Rivers United Church 75th Anniversary Concert with choirs from Oak River Hamiota and Rivers. On May 11 about 18 Elkhorn friends visited Charlie and Mrs Johnson for their 40th wedding anniversary. Mother's Day service at Oakner United Church baptized Justin Todd son of Mr and Mrs Todd Brown. attendees included A McGorman Deb Morcombe Corey Darcey Halton McGorman Neepawa and Wilf Brown. Lauren Anderson of Brandon visited.
Mrs Milly Campbell of Souris visited friends and relatives in the area. Mrs Glen Giles of B C visited with family in Kenton and with Mrs Kucheravy at Virden. May 10 marked a Come and Go Tea for Mrs Kucheravy a former local. A May 6 party honored Mrs Beatrice Airey on her 75th birthday at the Ukranian Hall Rivers with a buffet supper. Sympathy to the Bryant family on the death of Les Bryant of Hamiota. Norma Gray visited Lorna Airey in Brandon.
The Cardale District News reports a well attended Bake Sale Tea and Arts and Crafts sale on Friday afternoon May 4. Visits include Kathleen Campbell with her brother and sister in law Pat and Gwen McTavish. Curtis Bender returns from England and visits relatives. a church service by Mr John Shaw is noted. Peggy J Shaw returns from Saskatoon. local residents attend a Flea Market in Souris. Belinda Bender of The Pas arrives at the Peart home and travels to Brandon to meet Curtis Bender. Funeral services held for Herb Skinner in Oak River on May 8. Best wishes extend to Georgia Hyndman after surgery at Wenn General Hospital May 7.
Education Minister Maureen Hemphill announced 647190 for renovations and a 5385 square foot addition to Binscarth School in Pelly Trail School Division No wa This includes a 3500 square foot gymnasium and updated facilities The project aims to boost physical education, improve classrooms and services while removing asbestos and creating 25 work weeks of employment The school serves 126 students from kindergarten to grade 9 and is located 10 miles south of Rossburn
