Hamiota Health Centre a model for rural care

Hamiota's 21 bed acute care hospital runs 24 hour emergency service obstetrical and surgical care and cancer treatment. Visiting specialists include a psychiatrist gerontologist podiatrist dermatologist surgeon and radiologist. Five salaried family physicians provide full primary care plus obstetrics routine exams disease screening and family planning. A three dentist practice with Dr Craig Fedorowich supports a 4200 person service area and 7000 active files. The centre credits long serving doctor Dr Hudson for success.

Seed money pledged for Hamiota Community Foundation

In 1996 a steering committee planned a regional community foundation powered by endowment interest. Hamiota Town and Rural Municipality provide $2,000 each to cover incorporation and setup costs. The foundation aims to fund arts, culture, youth, seniors, recreation, education and scholarships, with charitable status and future grant dispersals.
