Local High School Sports Open with Weekend Baseball Action

The Eastern division of the Mxi-Western Baseball League opened with three games over the weekend. McConnell beat Cardale and Oak River 10 to 6, Rovers 21 to 16, while Hamidta defeated Newdale 8 to 1 in the other opener. Jim Mathison and Harvey Duncan pitched for the local team with Math gaining the win. Dennis Smith led the Hamwta offense with two singles. Makowski and Pirie pitched for Newdale. The senior team hosts Rivers Saturday night, then goes to McConnell for a Sunday afternoon game. On Monday May 20 the senior team will play in the Victoria Day Tournament at Kinsmen Park Brandon. Hamwta High School hosts the Victoria Day softball and baseball tournament. The event starts at 10:00 am. After the final game, the Victoria Day Trophy goes to the girls team winner. the boys baseball tourney winner receives half the gate receipts.
