Caldwell Motors marks 60 years serving Hamiota

Caldwell Motors Ltd celebrates six decades of family service in Hamiota since 1935. J D Caldwell started in the garage business in 1928 and the dealership grew through four generations, with openings, partnerships, and current activity via Parkwood Auto Erickson. An open house on May 5 toasted the milestone.

Manitoba Legislature approves 1.5 percent pay hike

The Manitoba Legislature raises the annual stipend to 56,500 dollars and ties future increases to economic performance. Premier Filmon gains 15,000 to 96,500. Doer rises to 81,500. cabinet members also gain. The pension is replaced with a voluntary RRSP with employer matching. Liberals lose official party status and about 400,000 for staff.

History Book Addition Planned for Hamiota Volume

Plans begin for a new addition to "Hamiota Grains of the Century 1884 1994" after a May 3 community meeting. Ken H. Smith will chair the original committee, with sub committee heads continuing. new members are invited for the June 7 meeting at 7:30 p.m. in the Community Room.
