April shipments from Cran dall Red Cross to Winnipeg headquarters went out. The WMS and Evening Auxiliary met in church parlors. Rev T D Barnett of Hamiota spoke. A handkerchief shower for Miss Zina Kidd occurred, plus tea and dolls. W A met at church parlors. Cecil Collyer left for Winnipeg on service. Crandall boys baseball beat Arrow River 4 4 9 at Crandall School.
A D McConnell longtime Hamiota resident and pioneer leader died of a heart seizure at home on Friday May 3 1940 in his 82nd year. He helped found Viola Dale church and school and served as elder trustee and educator. He organized the first council of Hamiota and led the Manitoba Agricultural Societies. He is survived by his wife Mary J Sutherland and by two sons James Alymer and George N and four daughters and many grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Hamiota United Church with Rev T D Barnett officiating.
The Norton Sports Committee selected Saturday June 2 for their annual Sports Day event. Organizers invite participation from local clubs, schools, and residents with events scheduled across multiple venues in the town.
Reverend T. D. Barnett leads a community service at 9 30 a.m. with the S S and congregation uniting. A special Mothers Day service aims to include every mother in the area and asks for participation. An evening worship is planned at 7 00 p.m. under the title The World Wounds.
Jessie Hollock of Brandon College will address Scotia Church on Wednesday evening about Her Escape from Poland. Mrs. A Craig returned to Portage la Prairie after visiting her mother. The Pope annual Clydesdales Show and Scotia Picnic are set for Saturday June 8 with a Clydesdale Field Day included.
