Robbing Peter to Pay Paul Promises by Manitoba Pool

The Manitoba Pool allegedly failed to pay interest and repay principal to farmers who lent money for elevator and reserve funds from 1924 to 1929. It deducted funds from grain proceeds, promised 7 percent interest, paid 6 percent until 1929, then withheld since 1929, claiming an obligation to repay. The record cites total sums owed to farmers and government, totaling millions, and questions the Pool’s ability to pay patronage dividends while dodging taxes and repaying provincial claims.
