Airport upgrade eyed for Neepawa runway extension
The Federal Department of Transport approved 900 000 for Neepawa airport works including a runway taxiway and apron expansion. The upgrade will extend the main runway to 3 500 feet and widen it to 75 feet enabling larger aircraft and benefiting local businesses. Cecil Cox leads the airport committee and calls the project a new era for the facility. Farmers in Portage la Prairie region welcome stubble burning rules limiting nighttime burns and setting daytime controls August 1 to November 15 with a toll free inquiry line provided by local agricultural offices.

Engineer Morris Block cites coarse aggregate insufficient compaction and possibly low bitumen as causes while the Russell Flying Club and Airport Commission press for a $200,000 government grant to rehabilitate the small airport.
