Exterminate the Gopher to Stimulate Action
The Manitoba Department of the Manito cultural College distributed 1000 free packages of wrapper poison in 1916 to curb gophers. Late spring and wet conditions hindered farmers but reports showed effectiveness, urging concerted action as gophers roam from vacant lands to feedgrounds.

Ladies' Patriotic Society Notes from April Meeting
The Ladies' Patriotic Society met April 25 at the Presbyterian church parlor with tea served by Mrs Whimster and Mrs Kirk. They planned the May 5 meeting at Knox Church parlor and discussed continuing only business meetings through summer while supplying Red Cross garments. A nurse Morrison appeal prompted monthly boxes of supplies. $6 was raised in a sugar collection. Boxes of sugar and socks were sent to Miss Morrison and two of our boys. Members Tennyson Chambers and Gil Amler son plan a box of provisions, and three ladies will coordinate ongoing work. A town canvass for old rubbers and rags is set for May 12, and larger centers are unavailable due to shipping. The annual 250 cent monthly collections totaled $22. A donation of $2.75 from Mrs Heddeeheiner supports the YMCA huts, via bottle sales. A list of garments sent since Sept 21, 1916, and a half-year financial statement will appear soon.
