The local lodge of Oddfellows attended service at Christ Church last Sunday via Lady. Rev. Jo McKinney preached an impressive sermon from 1 Samuel 20 42 about Jonathan and David's friendship and steadfastness to promises and principles. The church was decorated and the choir sang.
Hamiota council met with the reeve and councillors on April 27 1979. Decisions covered including grants to the Children's Aid Society Winnipeg and Salvation Army Rescue Home, land transfer petitions, road grader purchases, and appointments for a poundkeeper and assessor positions. A plan to list vacant arable lands for immigration was discussed with Minister Lawrence.
The town's hospital, now at capacity with five patients, refuses three new admissions this week. Eight of ten treated come from surrounding country, and residents have generously funded a larger facility. A new hospital is clearly needed for successful long term care.
Oak River reports principal Miss Slattery is ill with paralysis and has been moved to Winnipeg Hospital. She cannot resume duties this term and will return to Nova Scotia when strength returns. Rev. J. Little acts as interim principal until Miss Bullock of Brandon arrives Thursday evening.
On April 23 at the Presbyterian church Isabella, Charles Argyle and A M Pardy of England were married by Rev M J Leith. A large crowd witnessed the ceremony and dinner followed at Mrs T Ariss’s home. The bride wore white silk with oriental lace and Brussels embroidery. her bridesmaid was Belle McPherson.
The council adopted the read financial report and ordered cheques issued. The session adjourned after a Court of Revision, with Carried recorded for the adjournment and next meeting set for May 25.
