Minimum wage set at 66 cents an hour in Manitoba
The Manitoba Minimum Wage Board recommended to the labor minister a rate of 66 cents per hour in urban areas and 61 cents in rural areas for both men and women. The plan, based on life necessities and health budgets from the YWCA and the University School of Home Economics, was justified by transportation differences and the goal to provide a wage sufficient for basic needs.

Road-Builders Conquer The Bog In The North
In northern Manitoba a 14 mile No. 10 highway grade through The Bog muskeg has been completed by continuous 24 seven operations since November 15. Muskeg to 14 feet deep was hollowed out and replaced with clay from ridges. The $1,444,020 project uses heavy equipment to create a sub grade to support a permanent paved surface, with completion expected by August and open traffic.

Gladys Kirk widow of Harold Kirk died at her home. Born in Grey County Ontario in 1884 she moved to Dauphin then Hamiota districts. Married 1915 she leaves a daughter Fay and four grandchildren. Burial March 7 at Hamiota Cemetery with pallbearers and honorary pallbearers. Rev. Ralph Clark officiated.
