The Royal Bank of Canada announces new mortgage options after a Bank Act revision. Eligible applicants can access National Housing Act or Conventional mortgages with limits up to $18,000 or $40,000 respectively, depending on value and purpose.
Premier Robert Stanfield of Nova Scotia will speak at the Manitoba Conservative Fund Raising Dinner and Dance on April 5 at the Marlborough Hotel Winnipeg. Stage program includes Duff Roban introduction and a Centennial themed, non political emphasis with fun and birthday celebration.
Manitoba high school examination board will be revamped to include two Manitoba Teachers Society representatives and one Brandon College representative now attaining university status July 1. The 12 member board includes a full time chairman and retains six other positions, with University of Manitoba senate appointing three members.
Mr and Mrs John Hazlewood marked their 54th wedding anniversary with family at the home of Mr and Mrs Herb Smith on Sunday March 19. An intimate gathering included grandchildren and two great grandchildren with a picnic supper and social hour followed by a musical evening featuring Ken Smith Violet Smith Judy Reid and Janice Hyndman.
Representatives of the Bird tail River Division Association of The Manitoba Teachers' Society urged at the 48th annual general meeting in Winnipeg on March 27 28 29 that legislation be amended to lower the Manitoba Teachers' Pensions Act retirement age from 65 to 60. The move is among at least 19 pension related resolutions debated at the Marlborough Hotel gathering.
The Hamiota Hospital District No 7A Ladies Aid met in the Community Room with 14 districts represented. Treasurer reported receipts 233.16 expenses 160.00 and bank balance 1114.63. Plans for a hospitality tea bake sale and regional meeting May 18 at Buffalo Plains Inn were discussed.
Bill Sorrell of Boissevain won again at the Royalite Show in an indoor curling game and his wife sat among the front row. His name was drawn again for an air partner and he won a camper trailer. The family may travel soon, hoping for more good luck.
The Scotia Ladies Club held its March meeting at Mrs Jack Anderson's home with 14 members present. Easter service opened the session and Mrs Jean McKinnon led the business. Plans were made to serve lunch at the White and Rivers sale in April. Mrs Ritchie won the quilt donated by Mr Mackay of Hamiota. Lunch was served by the group with Mizozh benediction. Attendees included Mrs Grace Anderson Lorraine Cochran Dora Steven and Rena Smith.
Lottie Isobel Richardson wife of Jesse Charles Richardson died March 21 in Hamita ta Hospital at age 71. Funeral held March 25 at McConnel United Church with interment in Hamiota Cemetery. she taught school and was active in church groups and the Women’s Institute. Survived by husband three sons eleven grandchildren two brothers and two sisters. predeceased by son Jack daughter Joyce and sister Linda Rey.
The Crandall W I met in the church parlor with 17 members present. Mrs Wm Taylor chaired, Mrs Ray O Connell secretary. Members contributed a bar of soap for the Red Cross, sewing completed, display shown by Mrs Herb Smith, a music class with 13 youths, and a fine concert followed by a downstairs luncheon.
The Hamiota Tossing Manes Pony Club held a bonspiel on March 11 at the Hamiota rink with invited Neighbor 4H Clubs. Ponie Club leader Mrs. Paddock ran the draws and prizes were awarded. McConnell Beef Club took the top prize.
West-Man Regional Development Incorporated held its first annual meeting at the Prince Edward Hotel Brandon on March 22 with R E Forbes of the Agricultural Extension Centre chairing. Board members Ed Spalding Abe Chapman J Morrow and T Vicence were affirmed for one year and guest speakers included R Wallace L R Dyke and G Moore.
The Crandall 4-H Garden and Potato Club held a successful Bonspiel on Saturday March 18 with seven rinks. Local skip winners were Bob Hirst and Mary Lou Hedge in the first event, and Murray Sutherland skip in the second. Hard Luck prizes went to rinks skipped by Larry Rudd Rich Lawson and Marg Miller.
Hon J J Greene opens the Manitoba Winter Fair in Brandon on Monday April 3 at 8 p m He plans to arrive mid afternoon tour the fair buildings attend a 430 pm reception in the Rose Room Prince Edward Hotel and speak at a 6 pm dinner in the hotels Main Dining Room The reception and dinner are open to all Tickets for the dinner available at the Prince Edward Hotel and Winter Fair Office Arena Building
