Reverend T D Barnett invites families to a 1940 March 31 Sunday service at 11 am with communion. Sunday School at 12 10 pm followed by a post election sermon. "Except these abide in the ship ye cannot be saved" Acts 27 31. Come and worship.
Morning service with Holy Communion at 11 as Christ Church Hamiota marks the first Sunday after Easter. Celebrant Rev. F. C. Whittington of Brandon presides.
Hamiota reports Easter visitors, deaths, sales, and church notices. The Central Hotel reopens run by Mr and Mrs Ab Easter while private visitors include Walter Whyte and Jim Squibb. A local pig sale, home cooking sale, and charity notices are listed alongside theatre showings, religious services, marriages, and clarifying community announcements.
Ladies and misses dresses on display with prints and chiffons for spring. Print dresses priced 75 cents to 1 75, triple sheer chiffon blouses sizes 14 to 20 at 1.95, 36 inch English and Canadian prints 20 or 35 cents per yard, complete family shoe stock.
Special on Grocery Counter advertises Crown Brand corn syrup in 10 lb pails at 79 cents and artificial vanilla 4 lb pails at 47 cents. It lists Paulin's Fig Bars with fresh berry jam per pound at 21 cents, Bright's unsweetened pie cherries two tins for 29 cents, dates fresh Sours 2 pounds at 19 cents, Chase & Sanborn Cottee per bottle 49 cents, York pork and beans in chili sauce three tins 27 cents, puffed wheat per bushel 35 cents.
Local ad lists fruits and vegetables with pricing. Oranges and Texas grapefruit described as large and sweet. Lemons extra large. Cabbage lettuce and potatoes offered in bulk with multiple bulk deals and bag prices. Deals include 5 for 25c, 3 for 72c, and bags at $1.35.
Mrs Jessie Delbridge of Hamiota Manitoba born in Georgetown Peel Ontario on April 2 1874. The WJ will meet Monday April 1 at 2 30 pm with a talk on horticulture by Mr Brown Brandon Experimental Farm and Rev T D Barnett discussing current events. An exchange of house plants will occur at this open meeting.
