Manitoba seeks clearer Remembrance Day rules
Manitoba Labor Minister Vic Toews endorses a final report by the Remembrance Day Act Public Review Committee chaired by Judge John Enns. The plan keeps separate Acts for Remembrance Day and holiday closings, defines retail activities, and adds Korea and Gulf War references while ensuring non retail and non recreational activities are unchanged. It also establishes an absolute employee right to refuse retail work on Remembrance Day and aligns penalties with the Retail Business Holiday Closing Act, with legislation to be introduced in spring for passage before Remembrance Day 1996.
