In 1908 local ladies formed the Hamiota Hospital Aid after a public meeting urged by residents. They organized fundraising events including a minstrel show and fairs that raised funds to furnish a temporary hospital, hire staff, and equip beds and supplies for typhoid cases. The council supported ongoing hospital work and the group became the hospital’s managing body.
The Hamiota Hospital Aid elects G. S. Anderson as President and F. C. Grant as secretary. Members thank Ed. L. Stone for publishing hospital matters free and for allowing editing privileges of this week’s Echo to benefit Hamida and the surrounding district.
A large town meeting chaired by Mayor Chambers decides to keep the hospital in its current building with a monthly cost of about 80 dollars. The Ladies Hospital Aid selects a seven-member board including Dr Hudson and F C Grant to manage the hospital affairs.
