Hamiota Collegiate Teams Cap Basketball Honors
Hamiota High School basketball squads earned Brandon tournament trophies on March 5. The girls defeated Neepawa 23 15 and Brooke 28 11 after a 24 14 win over St Michaels Academy, with Lynda Kidd leading scorers at 27 points in three games. The boys, missing three players, advanced in the Consolation Event and beat Brooke 38 34 and then won 60 22, finishing 98 66 in points for and against. David Twerden sparked the final win with 21 points.

The Western Manitoba High School Basketball League closes with Lynda Kidd of Hamiota scoring 69 points to lead the Girls' Race, while Bob Cuddington of Brandon Collegiate tops Boys with 154 points. Dauphin Collegiate sweeps girls, Brandon Collegiate dominates boys.

Koch of Regina Saskatchewan aged 68 who died February 24 1969 at Grey Nun hospital was held February 27 at St Andrews United Church Regina burial in Memorial Gardens Koch born March 2 1891 in Wiarton Ontario eldest son of John and Mrs Koch moved west to Hamiota later worked in Manitoba Hardware store then Cabri as grain elevator manager and finally Regina Married Nellie Reid in May 1913 survived by wife son William of Sudbury Ontario daughters Dorothy Creigh Gossard of California Sharon Sweeney of Regina two sisters Pearl Levins of Vancouver and Freeda Mitchell of Nipawin and eight grandchildren.

Radar to Control Trunk Highways in Manitoba
Manitoba to begin radar enforcement on trunk highways starting June 1 to curb speeding. The move accompanies upgrades in corrections and probation, including new officers and a unified director of corrections and jail inspector duties. The attorney general noted the measure aims at prevention and driver awareness, with warning tickets initially. An advisory youth committee and a commission on judicial boundaries are planned to coordinate provincial corrections and legal boundaries. Mrs Wilton Celebrates 90th Birthday in Lavinia
Mrs Wilton was guest of honour at a tea at her daughter Mrs R Milne's Lavinia home for her 90th birthday. Born in Coventry England in 1870, she moved to Canada in 1888 and settled in Shoal Lake district, living in Lavinia for the past ten years.

Albertt Kuehl dies at 73 in Oak River
Funeral services were held in Hamista for Albert Kuehl of Oak River who died March 2 at Hamista District Hospital at age 73 years 9 months 5 days. Born in Wisconsin he lived in Strathclair before Oak River and retirement years. Pallbearers included Stan Henry Neil McCallum Herb Skinner Les Kirkpatrick William Bernard and Howard Kirkpatrick. Interment followed at Oak River Cemetery. McConnell Bros. funeral home directed.
