The Early Childhood Enhancement Program started as a joint project of Hamiota Elementary School and Hamiota District Health Centre for children ages three to seven. Since spring 1998, 24 preschool participants use the Hamiota Centennial Library space, with kindergarten and grade one activities run in classrooms. Work bees by local volunteers help prepare games and materials, while donors including Scholastic Books support book purchases. Committees led by Elaine Gies and others coordinate activities, labeling, and maintenance. A November parent information night featured talks on speech development and readiness skills. The Birdtail River School Division funds the kindergarten and grade one portions, enabling learning packets home for practice. A March 11 information evening at 7:00 p.m. in the library invites all preschool and early elementary parents. Karla Gardner will discuss Developmental Screening.
