Grand Lodge Observes Anniversary and Canada Celebration

The Grand Lodge of Manitoba marks the 277th Battle of the Boyne and 100th Confederation with a Provincial Celebration in Brandon at Exhibition Grounds on Saturday July 1 1967. A parade from Central School Grounds at 1 30 p.m. proceeds along 5th Street Princess Avenue and 13th Street to the Grounds with public addresses by prominent members and Grand Master L E Deering as chair. A sports programme led by Junior Members follows.

Mrs Ellen Hughes Enters Into Rest

Funeral service held at Oak River United Church for Mrs. Ellen Hughes aged 89 who died June 10 at Ham ilota Hospital. Born in North Devon England in 1878 she moved to Canada in 1926 later living in Cardale Rus cell Oak River and finally with daughter Iris Pratley. Survived by four sons Percy Jack Harry Fred two daughters Iris Vera Phyllis eighteen grandchildren thirteen great grandchildren one great great grandchild and one sister in England Interment at Marney Cemetery. Graveside rites by Ladies Society Legion members.

Hamiota Hosts Urban Home Grounds Contest

Weather woes dampen lawns and shrubs but some grounds impress. Entries for Hamiota Urban Home Grounds Competition due July 10 with top winners advancing to the Provincial Competition by July 28. Agricultural Rep Bill Steeds visits Beausejour in July. Mrs Lobban in August.

New Driver and Chauffeur Licences Due July 1

Manitoba's motor vehicle branch mails the last 12 000 forms for drivers and chauffeurs licences. Current two year licences expire June 30 and new two year licences are issued effective July 1. Fees remain five dollars for drivers and seven fifty for chauffeurs. Applications must be completed signed and returned with payment before processing.

Hamiota Red Sox Extend Winless Streak to Eight

Hamiota, 8 games without a loss? the text shows eight games not lost. Hamiota battled Brandon to a 10-6 win as Rick Robinson drove in three in the eighth. Lynn Caldwell led with three hits while Glennis Scott earned the win. Riverside defeated Hamiota 6-4 in a later game with a pivotal diving catch by Marv Robinson. Brandon later beat Hamiota 6-4 as Lyall and Robertson homered. Hamiota then topped Souris 5-0 behind Scott on the mound with Smith driving in two. All-Star game set with Pan Am team across six towns.

McConnell Fat Stock Show Champions Crowned

The McConnell Fat Stock Show and Sale on June 24 at McConnell Grounds awarded Grand Champion 4H Calf to Sharon Gray of the Oakner Calf Club with a 975 pound Shorthorn steer sold for 40.00 per pound. Reserve 4H Calf went to Gordon Thompson, Hereford 995 pounds sold for 32.00. Multiple clubs and buyers supported 65 cattle with average 28.19 per pound.
