Vandals damage signs and property in Hamiota

Early Sunday morning in Hamiota several stops signs and a telephone pedestal were knocked down. Property around the high school was damaged and a driver's training car moved but unharmed. RCMP say one adult male is responsible. charges pending with damage estimated over $3,000.00.

Truck theft near Carlyle leads to arrests

Allan Mathison of Hamiota reported a truck missing on June 12 after leaving it on a field approach east of Highway 21. On June 14 two suspects were arrested in Carlyle and charged with auto theft and possession of stolen property after police traced the vehicle. About $6,000 of chemicals remained in the back when recovered.

Regional Finals Open in Hamiota and Shoal Lake

The Westman Regional Finals of the Safeway Manitoba Summer Games begin Friday June 28 in Hamiota and Shoal Lake. A total of 710 athletes and coaches are registered for a three day event with softball and baseball drawing 13 teams each.

Canada Post Corporation reports a 1995/96 net income of 28 million, a 97 million turnaround from the prior year, attributed to cost reductions and tighter management. CEO Georges Clermont notes employee efforts and focus on core operations and payback initiatives. Mail volume reached 11.8 billion pieces and delivery points rose to 12,468,000.
