Fraser Clan Holds Reunion at Island Park Portage la Prairie

The Fraser Clan met for its 29th gathering at Island Park Portage la Prairie with 44 members and guests. Members came from Winnipeg Carman Hamiota Gladstone Oxbow Saskatchewan Lethbridge Alberta and Victoria British Columbia. Officers elected include Honorary president Dr J H Fraser President Geo L Fraser and Secretary Margaret S Fraser. The next meeting will be in Hamiota in 1962.

Children’s Aid Society Holds Regular Monthly Meeting

The Children’s Aid Society of Western Manitoba held its monthly meeting with President elect S. W. K. Stevenson presiding. Eight new city directors were introduced, rural representatives from Alexander Oak River and Hartney attended, and staff changes were approved with Miss Sandra Lowe and Miss Lyn Troux added to social work. The agency reported 1129 total cases at May end and outlined time allocations across family protection, unmarried parent, children, and adoption services.

Birdtail River division school boards held a one day convention at Oakner on June 7. Reeve Fred Andrews and Chairman C Montgomery greeted attendees. It is estimated that natural gas exports will spur at least 100 million dollars in capital investment in Canada during 1960.

New Hospital Premiums Set In Manitoba Plan

G L Pickering announces new premium rates for the Manitoba Hospital Services Plan effective Jan 1 1961. Six month benefits will cost 18 for single persons and 36 for families, up from prior levels. Monthly payroll deductors begin June 1960, municipal semi annual payers start Oct 15 to Nov 30 1960. A plan study led to the rate changes to fund expanded services, despite 1959 surplus and 1960 projected deficit. A stabilization fund is set to smooth future premiums. Administrative expenses remain about 4 percent of expenditures. Ninety six cents of each dollar income goes to hospital services.
