Birthday list notice for Mrs Mary Kirk born in Kent England on June 21 1864. She moved to Ontario 1870 and Manitoba 1889. Echo asks readers to submit birth details of residents or former residents in Hamiota district for a communal birthday record.
Lavinia YP Classe met at Salt Leake on Thursday June 13 led by Mrs Dorothy Shackleford. A short limerick was followed by supper and a ball game. Decker junior girls and both Decker and Lavinia teams suffered losses in various Friday games. Visitors included Lloyd Thompson RO.M.P. of Calgary and Miss Viola Shayman visiting Winnipeg. Local families Mrs Ball Bramitow and the Lief household hosted weeklong visitors.
Viola Bray and Robert McLaren Coombs wed at Northminster United Church Flin Flon on June 1 1940 officiated by Rev Frank W MacLean. The couple will reside at 83rd Flint Avenue East Flin Flon Manitoba.
Hamiota Horticultural Society will hold its show on Friday and Saturday August 9 and 10. A prize list may be obtained from secretary Mrs EJ Venables. Shoal Lake screenings this week include Ronald Coleman in The Light That Failed with showings at 7 30 and 9 30 and admission of 25 cents.
Sunday services at Hamiota United Church include an evening service with reception and confirmation of new members led by Rev. T. D. Barnett and a 10 pm program titled Dictator s and the Soul. Sunday School at 7, intercession for the British Empire, and a prayer for peace with victory. The June Women’s Institute met at the golf house with Mrs W. W. Cochrane presiding. Mrs Hemphill spoke on Food Conservation, reports on the Russell convention were read by Mrs Brims and Mrs Penny, and Mr Burgess led Current Events. a picnic supper followed.
