Sumerfallow With Care in Farm Notes

Summerfallow tillage beyond what weeds require raises costs without boosting soil moisture or yields. Proper machine choice and timing can cut erosion and costs while improving next year’s yields. Brandon tests show four cultivations usually suffice. herbicides may help where trash is light and erosion risk exists. Montana data find trash cover raises moisture by up to 30 percent and yields 4–8 bushels higher next year, with less erosion. Ant control on lawns via chlordane is advised by Manitoba agrIcultur e entomologist, using careful application and following package instructions to avoid food contamination.
