Hamiota Events Postponed as Diamond Jubilee Plans Continue

Russell Fair Opens With Senior Open Baseball Tourney

On July 19 the Russell Fair begins with a senior Open Baseball Tournament offering prizes of 200, 100 and 50 dollars. Pioneer of This District Passes Away

Thomas Allshire a pioneer homesteader of the Decker district and early resident of Hamiota village died Tuesday morning May 31 1927 in his eighty second year after a four month illness. Born in Dublin Ireland he came to Canada with his parents at age one. He lived in Woodstock Ont before moving to Manitoba to homestead then returned to Ontario to bring his bride who survives him. He later moved to Hamiota township worked as a carpenter builder until an accident left him disabled. He was a longtime Mason and Orange Order member. The funeral was held at his residence conducted by Rev W Brady of Crandall with interment in Hamiota cemetery. Survived by his widow four daughters Mrs W Keough Hamiota Mrs H Fretwell Winnipeg Mrs G McConnell MaeConnell and Miss Fanny Strathclair and one son Albert E of Hamiota. eldest son William predeceased him.
