Dear Jim continued: Canada’s farming, aid and grain debates

In a long letter, Wilbur argues that Canada’s grain surplus stems from technology and higher productivity, not farmer numbers. He counters claims that farming is Canada’s main industry, notes manufacturing leads in dollars and jobs, and suggests foreign aid could help move grain rather than arms. He contrasts Russia and China as major markets and invites Jim to visit aunt Martha.

Railways To Help Open Space In Elevators

Canada's two major railways join with the Canadian Wheat Board to create space in country elevators for farm grain deliveries before year end. CNR will provide about 600 extra cars to complement 6,000 already loaded or in transit, while CPR plans to load about 2,000 cars. Grain movement from eastern Saskatchewan and Manitoba has slowed due to a Lakehead grain handlers strike, with quotas easing after the crop year begins. Farmers are paid after delivery.
