Warble Fly Grubs Ruin Leather and Drive Losses

The Warble Fly larvae create holes in Canadian hides that scar the leather and reduce value. In 1930 grubby hides reached 45 to 50 percent in April and May, with western range stock hit hardest. Eradication efforts are urged through the National Research Council and Dominion Department of Agriculture, citing success in Saskatchewan and comparisons to Denmark's 1922 law. Data for 1931 show 70 to 80 percent grubby hides in western stock during March and April.
