New Exemption for Dependent Child Trust Funds
Manitoba's new social allowance rule lets recipients exempt the first 25 000 of a dependent child’s trust fund assets when calculating benefits. Family Services Minister Harold Gilleshammer says the change protects assets for education and training, applying to inheritances or compensatory awards for injury or death. Adults retain existing rules with no exemption.
