The Manitoba sheep industry has grown steadily from about 25 000 head in 1904 to 43 000 in 1912. Breeders respond positively to a circular enquiry, with enthusiasm high. A bulletin by the Animal Husbandry Department is in preparation on key aspects of the industry.
The Brandon Summer Fair runs July 20 to 24 with entries closing July 11. Five daily races feature over 300 top race horses. new midway attractions and a grand water carnival promise strong appeal, with special excursion rates across Manitoba and Saskatchewan July 1 to 24 and return by July 25.
Advertised fair dates include Hamiota July 29 Minniota July 28 Rivers July 30 Minnedosa July 30 31 Oak River August 6 and Rapid City August 7.
All contributors of 0.00 or more to the hospital project are to be registered as Life Members of the Corporation. Those giving less than 50 dollars will be asked to reach 50 dollars or more by November 1914, either in cash or as a promise to pay. Life Members will be included in the Annual Report.
Twenty entries require 1.00 membership with extra charges beyond. Directors propose a new judging ring for horses and improved buildings. Exhibitors urged to enter early and mail a week before fair. Ladies' Hospital Aid will serve meals with profits to the hospital. Bronze turkey prizes listed with entry fee 20 cents. Train shipments arranged for July 20th arrival at 9 15. Baseball prizes of 30, 20, and 10 dollars offered. cars admitted on specified grounds area.
Church of England holds Sunday morning service at 11 am and evening at 7 pm with a 2 20 Sunday school and Bible class. Holy Communion on the island road the Sunday in the month at 11 am conducted by Rev C Wood. Methodist at Orange Hall Hansiota offers 11 am service and 7 pm evening service with Sunday school at noon. Chumah Church lists Sunday School 2 and preaching by Rev Saml East, with phone 194. Knox Presbyterian notes Sunday school combined with Guild at end of evening service, Bible study Wednesday at 7 with Pastor E Turkington.
