McConnell Wins Lieutenant Governor Medal at Red River

Robert McConnell of Hamiota won the Lieutenant Governor's Medal for diploma science at Red River Community College graduation in Winnipeg on June 29. Over 2,000 students participated across two ceremonies with 645 diplomas and 1,418 certificates awarded. McConnell, an Electronics Technology graduate, held a 4.0 GPA and active in sports, earning top honors for combining academics with campus involvement and a project winning first prize at Papers Night. He will join Imperial Oil Ltd. Other medals went to Helen Martin, Jean Carter, and Donald Beattie in arts and science categories.

Local Golf Club Hosts Annual Summer Tournament

Hamiota and area golfers competed July 3 and 4 with 100 players. Championship winner Wilf Lee of Strathclair shot 65, followed by Clayton Wyborn and Scott Simpson. Flight winners included Doug Roberts and Frank Andrews in various brackets, with scores ranging from 77 to 94 across five flights.

Hrankowski Couple Bid Adieu At Block Farewell

About twenty neighbors gathered June 30 1976 at Neil and Bernice McDonalds home to say goodbye to Dr Clifford and Elaine Hrankowski. Nellie Kennedy presented a Silver Tray bearing block family names. Gifts included crystal pieces and a tricycle for Adam. Don Kennedy and George Peacock played accordion music during the final visit and a barbecue closed the evening.

Fifty Year Wedding Anniversary in Chumah Hall

Ernest and Annie Dixon celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary on July 6 in Chumah Hall with relatives and friends. The couple married at the home of the bride's parents in Hamiota. Family members and grandchildren attended. guests helped with tea, piano, and toasts, and gifts were received from the Dixon and Andrew families.

Metric Education Display at Local Fair

Two summer students sponsored by the Consumers Association of Canada present a Metric Education Display at the fair. The display aims to dispel fear of the metric system and encourage everyday use of metric measures with pamphlets and a free Metric Cookbook offered to visitors.

Couple Honored In Beamsih Home Gathering

On July 7 at the Beamish home in Hamiota friends and neighbors honored Mr and Mrs Lincoln Beamish now moved to Rivers and also Mr and Mrs Doug Beamish. Mrs Nelson Kreager read the address while Maurice Francis and Bill Miller presented gifts. The couple thanked guests as the evening concluded with visiting and lunch.
