Hamiota Millennium Park Opens Along Highway 21

The Hamiota Millennium Roadside Park near Highway 21 opens after two years of work. The centerpiece tyndal stone Hamiota sign sits by a water pool and flowers, with future plans for plaques and tourist info stalled by funding. Donations from community groups and the Upper Assiniboine River Conservation District helped reach about 56 000 invested toward a projected 100 000 value.

Local minister to serve Kenton Shiloh churches

As of July 1 the Hamiota and Kenton Shiloh United Church Pastoral Charges share one minister Rev Larry Todd. He will lead worship, conduct weddings funerals and visits in Kenton and Hamiota areas. Kenton services suspended in July with first service planned August 5.

Centra Gas seeks rate decrease in Manitoba

Centra Gas proposes lowering the Primary Gas rate to 22.18 cents per cubic metre from 29.22, effective August 1 2001, and adds a new PGDR charge of 3.63 cents per cubic metre through July 31 2003. Residential customers would face a 7.0 to 8.2 percent bill decrease depending on class and usage. Manitoba Hydro chief Bob Brennan cites lower forecasted gas costs as the reason for the cut.
