Centennial Caravan Delights Hamiota Crowd in One Day Stop

The Confederation Caravan drew about 6 300 visitors in Hamiota from 11 00 am to 11 00 pm with 42 travelers helping explain the road show. Highlights included golf holes in one by L McKenzie and Lynn Switzer, a 700 plus turnout for Pioneer Club display, 1044 meals from a Lions Club barbecue, and an interdenominational church service with Hon. Walter Dinsdale as speaker.

Immigration into Manitoba rises 87 percent in first five months of 1967

Manitoba reports 3,194 immigrant grants from January through May 1967, up from 1,709 in 1966, with the province accounting for 3.6 percent of Canada’s total immigration. Hon. Sidney J. Spivak cites government recruitment drives, overseas promotion, and a Europe-wide campaign as the cause, noting nurses, teachers, technicians, and other trades are targeted. The push included brochures, a new film, and a recruiting mission across the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Holland, and Malta, with 10,000 inquiries to date and a peak arrival of 60 Maltese in early June.

Red Sox Maintain Lead With Big Win Over St Lazare

St Lazare Athletics fell 42 to the Red Sox as Brian Smith pitched a complete game in nine innings allowing six hits and one walk with one strikeout. Don Smith and Robertson each had three hits for St Lazare. Hamiota outhit them 11-6.

Couple Honored with Surprise Silver Wedding Party

A pre Silver Wedding party was held at the home of Mrs. R. F. Campbell on Tuesday evening June 22 honoring Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Grey whose 25th Anniversary fell on June 30. Gifts of Royal Albert chinaware were presented and a corsage and boutonniere pinned. Out of town guests came from Brandon Rivers and Iebela.
