Schwanke painting chosen for national art honor
Maureen Schwanke of Arrow River won a $1,000 prize at Ag Days Brandon for View from an Old Farm House. Among 29 Manitoba entries in the Millennium Art Competition, her work and Lori Boast were selected to represent Manitoba nationally. Rosann Wowchuk presented the award as the paintings advance to the national round with 16 other provincial entries.

Zamboni Sparks Glassy Ice in Hamiota Complex Preps
Before a novice game January 25 between Tri Town and Hamiota Rick Brethour operated the zamboni to produce an almost glass perfect ice surface at the Hamiota and District Sports Complex. The region contrasts with communities using less advanced ice cleaning methods once common.

CityMARK Canada brings rural renewal to Hamiota event
The Hamiota Chamber of Commerce highlighted the CITYMARK Canada program at its annual meeting. Allen Gordon outlined CITYMARK’s U.S. origins in Harrisonville Missouri and its Canadian introduction in Rivers Manitoba in 1999. The Rivers project produced a 120 point evaluation on health care leadership education transport and quality of life and prompted action with community surveys and seminars. Rivers expects to become the first Certified CITYMARK Community later this year as outsiders provide objective feedback.
