New Flax Varieties Shifts In Prairie Provinces
Survey data shows Manitoba flax acreage dominated by Dakota Royal and Redwing in 1949 at 80.4 percent, dropping to 28.7 percent by 1952 as new varieties gain ground. Saskatchewan and Alberta also see changes though less rapid. New licences introduce several varieties Rocket Redwood Shevenne and Marine with varying rust wilt and lodging resistances and maturity. Rocket and Red wood suit southern regions, while Sheyenn and Marine offer earlier yields.
