The fourteenth annual Hamiota Carling Club bonspiel starts Tuesday January 17 with three prizes in each of five events. Prizes include a $125 Sun Life Cup and four Superior Fountain Pens. other awards are leather suitcases, silver teapots, and more from local sponsors.
A tally of prize items with values and donors for the Grand Challenge. Gifts include cup and four pairs of gentleman's shoes from Pioneer Fruit Company, four boxes of Chamberlain's cigars, fancy gentleman's smoking set from Kow Centre Coal, and other items such as a large fruit cake and leather satchel. Entries close with secretary J W Scott by Tuesday January 11 at 5 am.
A sudden death occurred last Monday involving Robin Reynolds who was employed by L. Hamhon for the summer. He suffered an apoplectic fit and collapsed in a cellar. He had been in poor health for some time and leaves family and unresolved matters.
About seventy five couples from Hamiota and district attended a two day planned impromptu farewell for Mr C L Thring former manager of the Uden Bank with Mrs Thring. An orchestra provided music and a supper followed speeches by MPPP and Mr Ferguson. The event celebrated the couple’s service and friendship, with thanks given for local support and good will.
Weather and cold snap crippled Western Canada, with Lakeside rail line blocked and trains running hours behind. A Winnipeg to Brandon CM.R. freight line faced record delays of up to 44 hours for 140 miles as winds and ice halted service and town life stalled.
On Monday evening the Welcome Bible Class of the Methodist Church met at Miss Lottow Johnsons home to express esteem with a small linen shower. The class vice-president and a favorite in the circle mourn her departure as they finish their social duties and miss her greatly.
