Local residents hear of the Ice Carnival set for Friday in Hamiota Rink with events including a Mens’ Bonspiel starting Monday featuring 64 rinks. Notices cover piano tuning, dog licenses due March 15, a Beaver Lumber reward, a 77th birthday tribute, church choir plans, and legion activities with meetings and auxiliary reports.
In memory of Barry Leslie Pittendreigh who died March 4 1951 at age 8 months six days. Parents George and Brenda Pittendreigh express love and remembrance with the verse You linger in our memory still. Also a notice for Circle No 5 hosting a St Patrick's Day Tea on March 17 at Onkiege Hall from 3 to 5 p.m.
Dr J E Hudson received a $400 award from the College of General Practitioners of Canada as outstanding General Practitioner in rural Manitoba. The prize money funds post graduate study, presented by Dr Joseph Hollenberg, chapter secretary, who praised the physician’s service.
The Shoal Lake Stock Improvement Club will hold its first Annual Pure Bred Shorthorn Female Sale on Tuesday June 19 1956. About thirty five lots include Open heifers bred heifers and young cows with calf or in calf. Show at 12 30 sale at 2 15 with J R Blacklock Saskatoon as auctioneer. Selection committee ensures top quality animals with catalogues available about May 25. Aubrey Stickney secretary or Shoal Lake Agricultural Representative to obtain.
The Hamiota Legion notes announce the formation of a new Canadian Legion branch at Decker after years of alternating meetings. Decker Veterans applied for a charter following January discussions, with future Hamiota meetings moved to the Municipal Auditorium.
Mr H. 3 Lorimer of Pope Scotia district died at home after a brief illness found by a neighbor on Tuesday. Born August 20 1894 in Scotia he served in the 45th Battalion CEF was gassed and awarded the Military Medal. He was grain buyer at Pope from 1939 until his death leaving a wife Mamie Wilman and children including Colin of Winnipeg Patricia predeceased him. Funeral held Saturday at Scotia church with Rev K Armistead burial in Scotia Cemetery.
