Royal Templars Report and Liquor License Debate

The largest Grams Council meeting in the province heard a report from a delegate and discussion of liquor license amendments, including the removal of the three-fifths clause. Delegates urged only resident voters to vote in local veto contests and for village incorporation to join the municipality. Concerns were raised about liquor handling in Hamiota and potential attempts by small Manitoba villages to secure licenses, with warnings against enabling liquor traffic. A Winnipeg hotel paper warned about prohibition trends and advised hotels to prepare for potential license loss. The local option vote is set for December municipal elections, with emphasis on prompt petition coverage and educational outreach.

Gasoline outfit cheaper for threshing says local farmer

A Hamiota reader argues a small gasoline threshing outfit saves money and labor over a big outfit. He cites 1900 figures: 9 760 bushels with 16 men and 4 teams cost 5083 dollars, 21 days of work. This fall his small unit threshed 95 bushels in 14 days with 6 men, no extra boarding, saving 124 dollars and reducing farmer’s wife’s workload.
