93rd Birthday Celebrated for Charles Ross

In honor of Charles Ross's 93rd birthday on February 8 his daughters hosted a tea for longtime neighbors at the Jim and Helen Maitland home. Charlie remains in relatively good health and stays engaged with family local and world affairs enjoying reading TV feeding birds and shuffleboard at the Senior Citizens Club with meals on wheels support.

Valentine Party Highlights for Happy Gang Meet

The Happy Gang held its Valentine Party on February 13 1980 with slides from Mr and Mrs Mundell and a game of 500. Door prizes were drawn with Mrs Jean Ramsey winning the first prize and Doug Mitchell winning a pie donated by Mrs Marion Hunter. Other prize winners included Bob Riddell Mrs Flo Thompson and Clare Hodson. The group enjoyed a lovely lunch and invited more members to attend February 27.

Wally Henderson Honored by Manitoba Minor Hockey Group

Wally Henderson of Hamiota was honored January 27 at a Winnipeg luncheon for twenty years of service to Westman minor hockey as coach referee and administrator. He organized free referee schools at Hamiota and Miniota Collegiate, helped realign provincial playoff categories, and serves as registrar for the North Westman Minor Hockey Association. He is married with four teenagers.

Rebekah Lodge Meeting Notes From Hamiota

The Rebekah Lodge held its February 11 session with Noble Grand Margaret Boyd presiding. Twenty officers and fifteen members attended. A scrapbook of the year’s activities was displayed and a letter from Winnipeg University prompted discussion on British people arriving in Canada before 1930. Jean Morton will lead a drill team to the Rebekah Assembly in Winnipeg March 16 to 20, assisted by his wife Hazel.

Beef Club Meets at McConnell Home

Beeh Club members gathered February 12 at Jack Boyd’s house for a 4 H meeting. They postponed the test until the next meeting and discussed club topics including the bonspiel dates, calf scramble eligibility, public speaking, and a safety film show.

Ida Strachan Celebrates 90th Birthday Come and Go Tea

A Thursday February 14 tea marked Ida Strachan’s 90th birthday at Chumah Hall with Valentine decor. Tea pourers included Dorothy Hodgson Martha Bretour Ruby Gray and others. Guests from Edmonton Alberta and Manitoba attended along with relatives and the Rebekah Lodge donated guest book signatures.
