Housing Complex Officially Opened At Hamiota
On Saturday February 15 1969 the Hamiota and District Senior Citizen s Park Residence Ltd opened twenty new units bringing total capacity to thirty. The addition includes nineteen single units one double unit a common kitchen dining area and sitting room for the care taker. Local officials Mayor Lorne Caldwell Reeve Lorne Montgomery and others attended along with MLA Morris McGregor who read greetings from Premier Weir and Minister Johnson.

Manitoba Agricultural Credit Board Formed with Regional Directors
Winnipeg Manitoba Agriculture Minister J Douglas Watt announced the formation of the Manitoba Agricultural Credit and Development Corporation. H J Anderson will chair a board including George Franklin Arthur V Rampton Harold L McKay and Lorne W Leggat. The act provides guarantees on farmer loans and administers previous Manitoba Agriculture Credit Corporation loans. Local Figure Skaters Present Very Successful Ice Show

UCW Meet Recap February 12 with Eleven Ladies Present
UCW meeting on February 12 noted eleven attendees. Devotional led by the Chumah ladies used the worship sheet and China program. January minutes approved, Treasurer and reports from Supply Literature and friendship given. A motion to order the United Church Observer was passed. Defensive Driving Course Completed in Hamiota
On February 13, twenty local drivers completed a Defensive Driving Course in Hamiota. Sponsored by the Hermota Lions Club, the eight hour program included lectures films and demonstrations. New Hunting Licence Regulations In Force
Manitobans must meet new rules for hunting licences this year. To obtain a 1969 licence presenters must show a previous licence or complete the province hunter safety training course. Anyone under 19 must take the course even with a prior licence. The course is offered by community groups across the province with sponsors such as Game and Fish Associations 4-H clubs and cadet corps. Information on courses available from the Department of Mines and Natural Resources in Winnipeg or conservation officers throughout Manitoba.

Breath Testing Starts March 1st
Manitoba enacts breath analysis rules to be effective March 1. Police may request breath tests to confirm impairment and may use results in charges or as corroborating evidence in court. Refusing tests leads to report to the registrar who may suspend the driver’s licence. The law passed in the 1968 Legislature session.
