The regular meeting of the Evening Auxiliary of the WMS was hosted by Amyrant on February 11 with 28 members present. Plans were set for a Home Baking Sale on February 22 from 9 p.m. and participation in World Day of Prayer on February 21.

Mr. Wil Millar of Hamiota notes brothers Dave and another Ham district resident and their sister Mrs Jackl Cooper of Mary Field Sask claim they were born February 22nd. Asked if they are triplets the sister jokes she is 13 years older.
HamIota rink led by W. Taylors won one main event and placed in the top prizes at the Decker Bonspiel which wrapped up Friday February 14 after five days of curling. Thirty six rinks competed with Hamiota teams claiming prizes including L Mansell in the Merchants and D Sirk in Citizens while R Kirk finished fourth for Curling Club.

John Ridley and Sindy Hyndman express gratitude to the doctors nurses and staff of Hamiota Hospital for their care during illness. They also thank those who sent gifts cards flowers and visited, and acknowledge phone calls.

The death occurred Wednesday February 12 1958 of Elsie Irene Marks at Hamiota born July 11 1922 in Camnantgam Llanelly Hill England. She moved to Hamiota in 1946 and was active in church and community service. She is survived by her mother a brother her husband and two sons John and Brian. Funeral February 14 at Hamiota United Church with interment in Hamiota Cemetery.
Community sends best wishes for a speedy recovery to the ill and shut ins. The sympathy of the community is extended to Mr. Al Marks and his family in their recent bereavement.
A $1,500,000 earth-fill dam on the Minnedosa River near rivers has received final approval. Progressive Conservative MP for Marquette Nicolas Mandziuk said construction will begin within 10 days after telephoned news from federal Agriculture Minister Douglas Harkness. The dam will form a lake about five to six miles long and nearly three quarters of a mile wide, flooding a shallow valley.
A Canadian Department of Agriculture release states Parkland barley is eligible for malting grades and superior in quality to OAC 21, equal to or better than Montcalm. Six years of trials by the Canada Experimental Farms Service confirm its malting performance and the Grain Board has ruled it eligible for Canada Western malt grade.
Parkland barley shows higher yields and lodging resistance than Montcalm in Western and Eastern Canada. Malting firms expect ample Parkland supply for 1958 with tests ongoing, though no firm market stance yet.
