Hamiota rink tops Decker spiel at five-day Bonspiel

HamIota rink led by W. Taylors won one main event and placed in the top prizes at the Decker Bonspiel which wrapped up Friday February 14 after five days of curling. Thirty six rinks competed with Hamiota teams claiming prizes including L Mansell in the Merchants and D Sirk in Citizens while R Kirk finished fourth for Curling Club.

Rivers Dam Work Starts in 10 Days

A $1,500,000 earth-fill dam on the Minnedosa River near rivers has received final approval. Progressive Conservative MP for Marquette Nicolas Mandziuk said construction will begin within 10 days after telephoned news from federal Agriculture Minister Douglas Harkness. The dam will form a lake about five to six miles long and nearly three quarters of a mile wide, flooding a shallow valley.

Parkland barley cleared as suitable for malting in Canada

A Canadian Department of Agriculture release states Parkland barley is eligible for malting grades and superior in quality to OAC 21, equal to or better than Montcalm. Six years of trials by the Canada Experimental Farms Service confirm its malting performance and the Grain Board has ruled it eligible for Canada Western malt grade.
