Zion United Church Free of Debt Celebration
The Zion United Church in Hamiota district marked the burning of the mortgage on February 20. The old church burned in 1914 and was rebuilt the same year costing about 14 000 dollars. The event honored Rev Samuel East and notable church figures as the congregation toasted debt freedom with a ceremonial torch by Mrs James Neelands and Mr Joseph Mclean.
