Prince John Ship Sponsors: Transmitter News and Island Calls
The Prince John, a 540 ton Pacific Coast steamship of the Canadian National, has installed a 10% watt continuous Wave transmitter with telephone attachment to notify ports of call. On its biweekly trips to Queen Charlotte Islands it calls at up to five ports per day, broadcasting arrivals and other news to crews and local ch urch communities. The crew's friendly broadcasts gain broad affection from islanders and officials including a postmaster who relies on the ship for mail delivery. In one voyage the ship aided a hospital infant by broadcasting the latest condition to anxious relatives. The report also mentions local events including Hamiota school operetta tickets and a charity tea, and notes Hamiota Juniors' hockey results at Oakner.
