The Miniota United Church Women gathered for the 1989 annual meeting on Tuesday January 30 at 2 pm in the C E Rooms with nine attendees. Officers and committees were named for 1990 with allocations set and reports presented, and Laura Long served a lunch after adjournment.
The Miniota church held its annual meeting on Tuesday January 31 at 7 30 p m with 23 attendees chaired by Edward Leland. The Wider Parish budget for 1990 was approved and the parish name was recommended to change to Bible Isabella Miniota pending approval by three congregations and Presbytery. Local reports note four weddings five baptisms and nine funerals. Sunday School thrived and remains self supporting. Outreach reported 28 bags and 16 boxes of used clothing sent to Island Lake as part of the twinning project. Nominating Committee filled all positions except a Finance Committee vacancy with Milburn McKenzie and Dallas Rowan joining. Worship Committee adds Marcia Joseph Sandra Nash and Ginger Reid. Kay Grant becomes Presbytery representative for two years, Eleanor O Callaghan replaces as treasurer. Five hundred dollars from the In Memoriam Fund proposed to aid the choir and fund lighting the church cross. World Division outreach forwarded a letter about federal budget cuts to Official Development Assistance, prompting letters to the Prime Minister.
Pastor David reflects on Psalm 139 to address loneliness and the believer’s need for God’s surround and knowledge. He cites verses showing God’s care, foreknowledge, and guidance from start to finish, urging application of faith to daily life.
Bible study classes will be held Wednesday February 7 at Miniota starting at 10 00 a m. Wider Parish Annual Meeting is set for Tuesday February 20 1990 at 7 00 p m in Miniota.
