The Hamiota District Health Centre auxiliary met January 25 1985 with fourteen districts represented. President Jean Fortune led as treasurer reported 526.20 in balance. December liaison showed admissions 54 newborns 4 occupancy 79.26 percent blood 2 units home care 107 visits 41 clients 14 workers 120 hours mobile meals 331 to 21 Hamiota clients and 11 to Miniota. Ambulance trips 7. Awaited February regional meeting hosted by Hamiota.

The Miniota Merry Makers met January 21 in the Miniota school with Mrs. Maude Lelond on public speaking. They set a $12 rink entry for a bonspiel and planned uniforms, prizes, and a point system. The January 31 bonspiel awarded place prizes, and sponsors from Miniota were thanked. Next meeting is February 18 and playground ideas are requested.

The Decker Country Riders 4H club held its first 4 H Bonspiel on Saturday January 26 1985 Ten rinks competed on a point system with each rink playing two games and every team won a prize Despite the weather everyone enjoyed the event

Sno-Blazer Poker Derby Supports Wildlife Project
On Sunday January 27 1985 the Miniota Sno-Blazers hosted a poker derby to benefit their Wildlife Project feeding hungry deer. Sixty eight drivers and ninety six riders participated with Jim Anderson Hamiota winning the drivers prize, Murray Hirst Virden second, Clare Clark Miniota third. Net proceeds totaled 338 dollars after expenses. Participants from Brandon joined the event which ended with sandwiches hot chocolate and soup for all.

Mrs Violette Carter’s 90th Birthday Open House
On a cold January 30 in Kenton, Mrs. Violette Carter was honored with an Open House at her home hosted by her daughter Mrs. Connie Alexander of Minnedosa. About forty guests attended, including four Kenton area sons Bob Glen Harvey and Alan, with one son deceased. Grandchildren and great grandchildren joined relatives, another factor keeping attendance lower due to extreme weather. The occasion celebrated her 90th birthday and family noted her humor and good health.

Rollingdale OAC Competes at Westman Winter Special Olympics
The Rollingdale Occupational Activity Center sent five competitors to the third annual Westman Region Winter Special Olympic Games in Boissevain on January 26 1985. Ed Kroeger placed third in snow shoeing and Neil McMurray finished second in cross country skiing. Over 75 volunteers organized the event with 13 regional clubs schools and groups participating.
