HAMIOTA District Hospital Aid met in the Community Room. Mrs. W. Hedley presided as seven districts were represented. Treasurer reported 205.57 balance. year ending 1968 receipts 1,836.68 expenses 1,533.92. Cardiac Monitor arrived January 16 at 4,060.50. aims to speed diagnosis and save lives. Open House tentatively set for February 8 to inaugurate the new Senior Citizens home with tea service planned by the Ladies Aid.

Local Hoopsters Have Busy Week in Manitoba Games
The Senior boys beat Russell 78 to 53 without Bob Garton and Bob Caldwell. Al McNiven scored 33, Rob Woods 17, Jack Roseveare 14, with others contributing. The Senior girls led 12-7 and 26-11 and finished 38-14 at quarter ends, Bev Pedlow and Wanda Anderson among top scorers. Junior B edged an elementary team 25-23. Junior boys won two at Strathclair, 45-33 then 66-15, McNiven posting 29 and 32 in the two games. Senior boys lost to Shoal Lake 33-28 in the playoff opener. McNiven 16, Roseveare 5. Girls beat Strathclair 56-25, Thompson 23, Murray 14. Next, a Shoal Lake vs Strathclair rematch is slated for Friday.

UCW Annual Meeting Highlights Activities and 1969 Officers
The UCW in Oak River held its annual meeting. three units served weddings, Legion Auxiliary banquet, Fair Day meals, Fowl Supper, and a Christmas Bake Sale. Clothing gifts were shipped to Norway House and to Winnipeg’s Unitarian Service in June and December. The Memorial Chimes Fund is completed and new officers for 1969 were elected, including President Mrs H Skinner and Past President Mrs R Griffiths.

Church Meeting Held in Cardale January 29 With Twenty Eight Present
The annual church meeting in Cardale was held January 29 in the church basement with 28 attendees. Rev. Holtzman opened with scripture and prayer. Officers and committees were reappointed for 1969, including Sunday School superintendent, UCW stewards, and auditor pair.
Car Registrations Now Being Renewed in Manitoba
Winnipeg reported that about 100000 of 175000 anticipated renewals have arrived at the motor vehicle registration branch from Metro Winnipeg residents. Over 49000 came by mail and the rest were renewed over the counter. Beginning March 1, validation strips must be displayed on rear licence plates. About 420000 renewal forms were mailed in January for 1968 registered vehicles provincewide. Outside Winnipeg renewals may be by mail or at provincial agencies. About 435000 vehicles are expected to be black with yellow characters.

Mrs. D. J. Marr aged 54 died Friday morning January 31 1969 at her Peterborough Ontario home after long illness. Born Ethel Johnston February 27 1914 Crandall she married Donald Marr August 21 1945. Survived by husband two sons Gordon Wayne three brothers Russell Lloyd Garnet one sister Vera Borland. Funeral held 1:30 pm February 3 at Comstock's Funeral Home Peterborough.

Farmers should check cattle for lice in February and March and apply Totenone 1 percent and Malathion 4 percent dust twice, 10 days apart, with a possible third dusting for heavy infestations. Germination tests are offered by Plant Products Division 730 Federal Building for pedigreed seed and control samples, costing $1.50, plus purity tests.
