Canada Must Not Tie Itself To United States Reciprocity
Former Ontario premier Sir George W. Ross argues against a reciprocity treaty with the United States. He warns such a pact could threaten Canada’s wheat, cheese, lumber and overall industrial autonomy, urging continued British preference and home-market development. He cautions that open U.S. access could undermine Canada’s markets and capital, and favors British links and Canadian parliamentary control over trade policy.
