Redman Wheat Promises Rust Resistance and Higher Yields

The Redman hard red spring wheat, bred for Western Canada rust areas, was developed at the Dominion Laboratory of Cereal Breeding in Winnipeg from Regent x Canu. It shows stronger drought tolerance, higher field yields in Manitoba and Eastern Saskatchewan tests from 1943 to 1945, and better straw strength than Regent. It offers high milling quality and is likely to be classed with Marquis. An Agriculture and Homemaking school will be held at Brandon from January 18 to March 14, 1947 for youths aged 16 to 30, with details from the Agricultural representative.
