County Institute Dates Set by Crandell Committee

Messrs Ed McConnell and G Brown chaired a committee in Crandell Monday to plan county Institutes. A programme was prepared with dates at McConnell Methodist Church January 10, Crandell January 21 and Beulah January 24.

Miss Brown Leaves for Edmonton After Summer with Friends

Miss E. Brown has spent the summer with friends at Viola Dale and Hamiota and left on Monday for Edmonton. The Viola Dale Christmas Tree will be held in the church on Dec 24 with a programme of choruses recitations and dialogues.

Mammoth Meeting of Grain Growers in Hamiota

The Hamiota Grain Growers Association held its annual meeting on December 14 with many members present. Commissioner Castle outlined wheat handling from wagon to terminal elevator, noting dockage and procedures that could save producers money and reduce disputes. Election results for 1908 named J. J. Pollock as president and Robt. Brooks as vice-president among others, with a plan to hold a mammoth future meeting to address marketing improvements and grievances.

Hamidta Village Elects Council in Tight Race

Election returns show high turnout with non residents few and many rural electors voting only for school trustee. New council for 1908 to include Win Chambers as mayor and Ferguson Stewart Whimster Whyte as councillors with Jno Murray Wm Pedlow and J H Heuck on the school board. Geo S Anderson defeated amid mixed reaction while Whyte succeeds him and is expected to do well.

A young Eden resident, Ren Hami Ota, lost a buckskin over-mitt on his return journey and, after despair, placed an advertisement in the Echo. A subscriber advised the ad and the mitt was returned days later, proving advertising in the Echo pays.
